Michelle Stephens, AICP, currently serves as Chapter President of the Colorado Chapter of the American Planning Association. She has been a city planner for 20 years and has sat on all sides of the development table. She started her planning career working in Logan, Utah, after graduating from Weber State University and serving as an intern in the Ogden, Utah, for the long range planning team. While in Logan, Michelle split her time between long-range planning projects, such as leading the General Plan Update, drafting design standards, and managing development review and code enforcement teams..
In 2005, Michelle joined the public services team at Otak where she led consulting teams for local, regional, and state governments across the inter-mountain west. Her projects ranged from public outreach and engagement activities to the development of concept plans for urban growth boundary expansions in the Portland-metro area.
In 2007, Michelle became the Master and Urban Planner for International Capital Trading, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where she was responsible for the vision, design, and construction of mega-scale projects, including Lu'lu Al Raha Island. Next she joined the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council and led planning policy for Abu Dhabi Island until 2012 when she returned home to the USA.
Since 2012, Michelle has held a variety of roles including Planning Manager, Community Development Operations Manager, and Applied Technology Director. She joined Bang the Table in 2019 and is responsible for educating others on the benefits of online community engagement.
