Inclusive communities around the world are using EngagementHQ (EHQ) for development review in order for the public to learn more and get involved. Not only does digital engagement increase participation, it also builds trust in the planning process due to the visibility or accessibility of information (i.e. transparency). With EngagementHQ, you can choose to give your residents a front-row seat to the process from start to finish and even from construction through the establishment of neighborhood groups. Below are a few examples:

  • Golden, CO, USA. Golden's development review page uses the Newsfeed (with commenting enabled) and Places tools, as well as the Important and Related Links, Document Library, Who's Listening, and Stay Informed learning tools. They have also embedded an ESRI Story Map that describes their development review process. I particularly like how they use Engagement Level descriptions and throughout the site.

  • Innisfil, ON, Canada. This bright page utilizes the Forum tool, as well as the Video and Image libraries, Who's Listening, and Important Links learning tools. The Document Library is used for all project documents, including technical studies.

  • Mercer Island, WA, USA. Used exclusively for larger development proposals, this project page provides the public an opportunity to follow the project's progress, ask questions or post comments. An embedded Google map provides the project location and the Image Library includes project images. The page also uses the FAQ, Who's Listening, Important and Related Links, and Document Library learning tools.

  • Nedlands, WA, Australia. Providing a detailed description of how-to-get-involved, access to project materials and photos via the Document and Image Libraries, as well as utilizing the Quick Polls, Question and Answer, and Survey/Forms tools are all part of Nedlands' approach to digital engagement for development review.

  • Edina, MN, USA. Edina is using a static page as the foundation for their online Public Hearings. Each project page includes a variety of information via the Newsfeed, Who's Listening, Key Dates, and Document Library tools. Public input is gained through the use of the Question and Answer and Guestbook tools.

  • Missoula, MT, USA. The City's Development Applications page uses the Newsfeed (with commenting enabled), Who's listening, Important and Related Links, and the FAQ tools.
