From my chair, it seems that the only relevance would be that you’ve potentially fulfilled a legal requirement. If you don’t have public input (or at a minimum, awareness) that poses tremendous risk to your project/work.

I’m all about access, so I think that government agencies SHOULD have a 24/7 space for education and engagement, in tandem with their traditional in-person processes, even if it’s just hosted somewhere on the city site. 

Regarding budgets - yes, tech can be expensive, but so are staff/marketing/venue costs around traditional engagement, which often results in low turnout and no new voices. What we can’t put a price on what is lost when an angry public shuts down a multi-year project or initiative because they weren’t involved in the process. 

If your decision makers are scared of the public, they’ve never seen good community engagement. I’m sure you know that when done well, it makes everyone’s job easier :)
