  • You focused on development projects, but I'd like to hear how the tools available with the website can be used to help policy discussions, such as updating community-wide housing plans.

All of the tools I've illustrated, and the ones I didn't, can be used to facilitate policy discussions.  Contact me at michelle@bangthetable.com or 303-525-5155 and I'll show you examples.

  • Can you integrate the bang the table platforms into your own website?

Through the use of Project Finder, you can make it easy to connect your EngagementHQ pages to other websites.
  • What makes a good queso?

    Fresh cheese, jalapenos and… magic?

  • How does Bang the Table ensure comments stay civil and constructive? I get a lot of angry comments about some development projects on social media and at public hearings and find it difficult managing the conversation.

Social media is great at reinforcing our own worldviews and not much else - it’s hardly a space for education, dialogue or any substantive engagement work.

Our software was designed by city planners with an eye on productivity, and our 8 engagement tools help you choose feedback modalities that are most appropriate for your project, as well as the temperature of your topic. We also moderate 24/7 to keep the space free of profanity, hate speech, etc. We care deeply about keeping this space safe and welcoming for all participants!

  • Can you undertake any kind of analysis on the comments submitted by the public?

Yes, EngagementHQ has an AI-backed sentiment analysis, and also text and survey analysis functions for you to manually tag/report on any qualitative input.

  • How easy/ difficult is it to pull information left on the site when "FOIA" requests are received?

One click report downloads in CSV or PDF.

  • Where is the service hosted? (on-site/ cloud).

All EngagementHQ sites are hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure. AWS is the leading cloud services provider in the world. Their suite of products and services, security controls, scalability, reliability, astonishing number of data centres, flexibility and continued innovation make them the absolute best choice for hosting in the cloud.

You can learn more about our Data and Information Security protocols on our Helpdesk.

  • What is the relevance of a Public Hearing when no member of the public turns out?

From my chair, it seems that the only relevance would be that you’ve potentially fulfilled a legal requirement. If you don’t have public input (or at a minimum, awareness) that poses tremendous risk to your project/work.

  • A comprehensive communications and engagement is ideal. With the reality of limited budgets and decision makers scared of the public, what are the core elements of an online program that as a public engagement consultant you think I should be lobbying for for fervently?

I’m all about access, so I think that government agencies SHOULD have a 24/7 space for education and engagement, in tandem with their traditional in-person processes, even if it’s just hosted somewhere on the city site.

Regarding budgets - yes, tech can be expensive, but so are staff/marketing/venue costs around traditional engagement, which often results in low turnout and no new voices. What we can’t put a price on what is lost when an angry public shuts down a multi-year project or initiative because they weren’t involved in the process.

If your decision makers are scared of the public, they’ve never seen good community engagement. I’m sure you know that when done well, it makes everyone’s job easier :)

  • For managing contacts and participants, are there ways to also capture demographic data? Ex: age, ethnicity, location, etc.

Yes, in the registration form. In EngagementHQ, it is fully customizable so that you capture the demographic data that is most important to your work.
